Senator Nelson proposes bill to train more doctors to fight opioid addiction
Senator Bill Nelson is looking for a new weapon in the fight against opioids in the form of doctors.
Tuesday, Senator Nelson filed a bill that would increase the number of doctors who treat those with an opioid addiction.
The legislation, known as the Opioid Workforce Act, would create 1,000 new Medicare-supported medical residency positions at hospitals throughout the country to train new doctors in addiction medicine, addiction psychiatry, or pain management.
The bipartisan bill now heads to the Senate Finance Committee for consideration.
